The Beginnings
As Olan grew up on his family ranch, his interest and passion for the outdoors also grew as he received a healthy dose of God's beauty and wisdom in daily encounters with the diversity of acreage of plowed fields, rocky hills, pastures, creek-bottoms, and cultivated rows of pecan trees.
The ranch was one of his most treasured teachers, a teacher that invited questions and exploration. From hills buried with treasures of arrowheads and history, to a natural water resource that weaves and flows through the heart of the property, to fields that have been plowed and planted again and again, to an orchard that stands obediently in methodical orientation, the rich history of the land has a way of telling its story to its willing observer.
This ranch was where knowledge and understanding of pecans was rooted and established, as real life encounters shaped the nuance of growing, harvesting, and enjoying the fruit of the peculiar nut, the pecan.
The Backstory
The store originated as a booth on the corner of Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas as a weekend attempt to introduce quality pecans to the historic, German community until Olan partnered with Segner’s Pecans and Furs over 25 years ago. The store transitioned into what the business is known as today, Fredericksburg Pecan Company, LLC. The company then acquired Texas Pecans and Gifts to add online products and business.
Olan is married to his high school sweetheart, Nanette, who retired from teaching and now runs the store front. They have three children who have all worked for the business in some capacity or another—Ericka, Ross, and Rhett.
The company is staffed, seasonally and year-round, with incredible employees, who help make the store what it is. This is a family business united to build an enjoyable atmosphere for customers and employees alike.
